Faith in the Face of Adversity

When everything seems to be going wrong, it can be challenging to keep our faith intact. It's during these times that we need to assess our faith and take an inventory of our relationship with God. Ask yourself questions like, "What is the source of my faith?" and "Am I relying on my own strength or God's power?" Faith is not about knowing what to do or how to do it, but about knowing that God will do something, even when we don't know what that something is. It's about trusting in God's sovereignty and goodness, even in the midst of uncertainty and adversity.

Talking to God Continually

One of the most important things we can do when our faith is being tested is to talk to God continually. This means praying specifically about our problems and asking for Christ to enlighten us, give us strength to overcome, and guide us through the darkness. We need to remember that faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17). We need to be in God's Word daily, seeking light for the next step, and trusting Him for guidance in small increments. We also need to be proactive about applying our faith in practical ways, even when we don't see the outcome.

Growing in Faith

Growing in faith requires us to be intentional about our relationship with God. This means making a commitment to attend meetings where we can listen to preaching and teaching of God's Word, praying specifically about our problems, and seeking light for the next step. We need to trust God for guidance in small increments and do what lies clearly at hand. We also need to be proactive about applying our faith in practical ways, even when we don't see the outcome. By doing so, we can develop obstacle-overcoming faith, which is the kind of faith that believes that things will happen just as God has told us (Mark 11:23-25). As we grow in faith, we will become more confident in God's goodness and sovereignty, even in the midst of adversity.
