Understanding the Purpose of Prayer

The purpose of prayer is not to get answers from God, but to have perfect and complete oneness with Him. Prayer expresses our trust in God and is a means whereby our trust in Him is deepened. It is a way of communicating with God, expressing our thoughts, feelings, and needs to Him. When we pray, we are not seeking to inform God of our needs, but rather to align ourselves with His holy will. As Jesus said, "Your Father knows what you need before you ask him" (Matt. 6:8).

Why Prayers Go Unanswered

Prayers go unanswered for several reasons. Sometimes, we do not know how to pray as we ought (Rom. 8:26). We may not pray according to God's will (James 4:3), or we may not ask in faith (James 1:6-8). Additionally, we may have wrong expectations about how God should answer our prayers. We may think that one solution is best, when in reality, God has a different plan. Sometimes, we need to be still and listen to God, rather than trying to dictate how He should answer our prayers. Prayer is not a means of manipulating God into doing our will, but rather a way of discerning His will and aligning ourselves with it.

The Importance of Trusting God

When prayers go unanswered, it is essential to trust that God is working in our lives, even if we cannot see the outcome. We must trust that God's ways are higher than our ways, and that His thoughts are higher than our thoughts (Isa. 55:8-9). We should not become irritated or angry with God when our prayers are not answered, but rather seek to understand His perspective and will. By trusting God and praying in faith, we can experience a deeper oneness with Him, even if our prayers are not answered in the way we expect. Ultimately, prayer is not about getting answers from God, but about developing a trusting relationship with Him.
