Understanding God's Sovereignty

When we ask why God let our surgery go wrong, we must first acknowledge God's sovereignty over all creation. As the Creator and Sustainer of the universe, God is not limited by our finite understanding or human circumstances. His ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9). This means that God's decisions and actions are not bound by our expectations or desires.

The Purpose of Suffering

The Bible teaches us that suffering can have a purpose, even when we don't understand it. In Colossians 1:24, Paul writes that he rejoices in his sufferings for the sake of the church. This verse reminds us that God can bring good out of our struggles and challenges. Similarly, in 2 Corinthians 12:7-10, Paul's thorn in the flesh was not removed, but it allowed him to rely on God's strength and to experience God's power in a deeper way. We must be careful not to assume that God's purposes are always to remove our difficulties, but rather to use them for our growth and His glory.

Faith and Trust

When we face struggles and challenges, it's easy to question God's love and sovereignty. But as Christians, we are called to trust in God's goodness and faithfulness, even when we don't understand. We must remember that God's ways are not our ways, and His thoughts are not our thoughts. We can trust that God is working all things together for our good, even when we don't see it (Romans 8:28). As we walk through difficult times, we must choose to trust in God's sovereignty and goodness, and to seek His wisdom and guidance. By doing so, we can experience the peace and comfort that comes from knowing that God is in control, even when we don't understand.
