The Battle Within

The question of fighting when everything seems against us is a complex one. From a biblical perspective, the answer lies in understanding the nature of the battle itself. It is not a physical fight, but a spiritual one, where the enemy is not a person or a circumstance, but rather the darkness that seeks to destroy us. This darkness is often referred to as the "enemy" in biblical terms, and it is a foe that can only be defeated by spiritual means.

The Source of the Battle

The source of the battle within us is our own desires for pleasure that war in our members. This is a fundamental concept in biblical teaching, as seen in the book of James (James 4:1-3). According to this passage, the battles and fights that we experience come from our own desires for pleasure that are at war within us. This can manifest in various ways, such as lust, murder, coveting, and fighting. The key to understanding this is to recognize that our struggles are not against external circumstances, but rather against the internal forces that drive us to act in ways that are contrary to God's will.

The Battle Plan

So, what is the battle plan? The answer is simple: get alone with God and fight the battle before Him. This is the principle that is outlined in 1 Samuel 17:47, where David says, "The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine." David knew that the battle was not against the external circumstances, but against the spiritual forces that were at work. He also knew that he could not win the battle on his own, but that God was with him and would deliver him. This is the same principle that applies to us today. When we are faced with a battle, we must first get alone with God and fight the battle before Him. This means that we must seek His guidance, His strength, and His wisdom in order to overcome the enemy. Only then can we emerge victorious, not because of our own strength, but because of God's power working through us.
