Showing Kindness to Those Around Us

As followers of Jesus Christ, we are called to show kindness to those around us without expecting anything in return. This is a fundamental aspect of our faith, as we are to love our neighbors as ourselves (Leviticus 19:18). Kindness is not a means to a personal end, but rather a way to benefit the person to whom it is extended. It is love's response to weakness, and it is perhaps the most important quality we can exhibit in our relationships with others.

In order to show kindness to those around us, we must first recognize that it is a decision, not an emotion. We must choose to be kind, even when it is difficult or inconvenient. This means being willing to put ourselves at someone's disposal, to lend a helping hand, or to offer words of encouragement. As Jesus taught, we should not let our right hand know what our left hand is doing when we give to the needy (Matthew 6:3). We should not seek to draw attention to ourselves or to receive praise for our kindness, but rather we should do it with a humble heart and a willingness to serve.

As we show kindness to those around us, we must also be mindful of the motivations behind our actions. We must not do good deeds in order to be seen by others or to receive a reward (Matthew 6:16-18). Rather, we should do them because they are a natural expression of our love for God and for our neighbors. When we do this, we will find that our hearts are filled with joy and our relationships with others will be strengthened. We will be living out the principle of kindness, which is a fundamental aspect of the Christian life. As the Bible says, "Kindness is more important than gold or silver or anything else of value" (Matthew 6:19-21). By showing kindness to those around us, we will be demonstrating the love of God and living out our faith in a tangible way.
