Understanding the "Why" of Suffering

When we ask "why me?" or "why now?" we are seeking to understand the reason behind our suffering. However, the Bible teaches us that God's ways are not our ways, and His thoughts are not our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9). He knows the way He takes, even if we do not (Isaiah 55:8). This means that our understanding of why we suffer may be limited, and we may not always see the bigger picture.

God's Sovereignty and Purpose

Despite our limited understanding, we can trust that God is sovereign over all creation (Psalm 103:19). He is the One who has a purpose for our lives, and He is working all things together for our good (Romans 8:28). Even in the midst of suffering, we can find comfort in knowing that God is with us and is working out His plan (Psalm 91:14). Our purpose in life is not to seek our own desires, but to seek God's will and to follow His plan (Isaiah 61:1-2).

Finding Strength in God's Presence

When we ask "why bother?" or "why live?" we are showing a lack of trust in God's sovereignty and purpose. However, when we trust in God and His goodness, we can find strength to persevere through suffering. We can learn to hate and exterminate the evil in ourselves, and to sacrifice our own rights and welfare for others (Matthew 16:24). By trusting in God's presence and purpose, we can find the strength to face our struggles and to live a life that reflects His love and character. As Jesus said, "My purpose is to give you a rich and satisfying life" (John 10:10). May we seek to understand God's purpose and plan for our lives, and may we find strength and comfort in His presence.
