Your Question:
Is God testing my faith?
Answer:
As a pastor, I've seen many people struggle with the idea of God testing their faith. But I believe that true faith is not about avoiding challenges, but about trusting in God's character and character even when it contradicts our own understanding. According to James 1:3-4, the testing of our faith produces patience and makes us perfect and complete, lacking nothing. When I think about my own faith, I realize that it's been tested in many ways over the years. As a pastor, I've had to trust in God's provision and guidance even when it seemed uncertain. But I've also had to confront my own doubts and fears, and to ask myself if I truly believe in God's goodness and sovereignty. The Bible says that faith must be tested, because it can only become our intimate possession through conflict (Hebrews 11:1). This means that we can't simply intellectualize our faith, but must live it out in our daily lives. So, is God testing my faith? I believe that He is. Every time I face a difficult situation or a challenge to my understanding of God's character, I'm being given the opportunity to trust in Him more deeply. And I'm grateful for that, because it's in those moments of uncertainty that I'm forced to confront my own faith and to ask myself if I truly believe in God's goodness and sovereignty. As Jesus said, "Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?" (John 11:40).
