Biblical Answer

As I reflect on the question of whether God created angels, I'm reminded of the scriptures that speak to their origin. The Bible doesn't explicitly state that angels were created, but rather implies that they exist as part of God's creation. In Genesis 1, we see that God declared all of His creation to be "very good" (Gen. 1:31), but beyond this, Scripture gives us no further information about the time of the creation of the angels.

Some scholars believe that the angels were part of the original creation, pointing to texts such as Genesis 2:1 and Job 38:7. However, these texts are not sufficiently clear to be utilized as a foundation for that belief. It's also worth noting that angels are never said to be made in the image of God, unlike human beings (Gen. 1:26-27). This distinction highlights the unique nature of angels as spiritual beings, separate from the material world.

Ultimately, the Bible leaves us with more questions than answers when it comes to the creation of angels. While we can infer that they exist as part of God's creation, we're left to speculate about the specifics of their origin. As a pastor, I've come to realize that sometimes the most profound truths are those that are left unspoken, and it's in the mystery that we find the opportunity to deepen our faith and trust in God's sovereignty.
