The Bible's Teaching on Forgiveness

The Bible teaches that God is a forgiving God who desires to forgive His children. In fact, the Bible says that God is "slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love" (Psalm 103:8). This means that God is not quick to punish, but rather He desires to forgive and restore His people. The Bible also teaches that when we sin, we are forgiven not because of our own efforts, but because of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ (Romans 3:25, 1 John 2:2).

The Nature of Forgiveness

Forgiveness is not the same as condoning or excusing sin. When God forgives, He does not ignore the consequences of our actions. Instead, He takes the consequences of our sin upon Himself through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This means that God does not forgive sin in such a way that it has no consequences. Rather, He forgives sin in such a way that the consequences of sin are borne by Jesus Christ, not by us. This is why the Bible says that God is "just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus" (Romans 3:26).

The Application to Gambling

So, does God forgive gambling? The answer is yes, but not in the sense that God ignores the consequences of gambling. Rather, God forgives gambling in the sense that He takes the consequences of gambling upon Himself through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This means that if we repent of our gambling and turn to God, He will forgive us and restore us to Himself. However, if we refuse to repent and continue in our sinful behavior, God will still hold us accountable for our actions. Ultimately, the question of whether God forgives gambling is not about the act of gambling itself, but about our relationship with God and our willingness to repent and follow Him.
