The Sovereignty of God

The sovereignty of God is a central doctrine in Christianity, emphasizing God's absolute power and control over all creation. When we experience hardships, such as losing a job or a home, it can be tempting to question God's goodness and ask why He allowed such things to happen. However, the Bible teaches us that God is not responsible for evil, but rather He is the one who sustains and governs all things, including the evil actions of humanity (Psalm 103:19-22).

The Providence of God

The concept of providence refers to God's guidance and direction in the lives of His people. When we lose our job or home, it may be a sign that we are in the wrong place at the wrong time for the wrong reason. Job, in the biblical book of Job, struggled with the idea of God's goodness and providence when he lost his possessions and health. However, he ultimately submitted to God without an explanation of why he suffered, demonstrating a life of naked faith (Job 1:21). Similarly, when we experience hardships, we can choose to submit to God's sovereignty and trust in His goodness, even when we don't understand why things are happening.

Trusting in God's Goodness

When we lose our job or home, it can be easy to become pessimistic and question God's love and care for us. However, the Bible teaches us to trust in God's goodness and sovereignty, even in the midst of hardship. As Job's wife suggested, we can choose to curse God and die, or we can choose to trust in His goodness and submit to His will. When we trust in God's goodness, we can see that He is not responsible for evil, but rather He is the one who sustains and governs all things, including the evil actions of humanity. By trusting in God's goodness, we can find peace and comfort in the midst of hardship, even when we don't understand why things are happening.
