Starting Over: A Biblical Perspective

As we explore the concept of starting over, it's essential to acknowledge that our past experiences, habits, and choices have shaped us into who we are today. The Bible reminds us that "no temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind" (1 Corinthians 10:13), and that God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). Before we can start anew, we must address our past, break free from habits that hold us back, set standards for ourselves, get out of debt, and re-engage with our local church community.

To start over, we must be willing to lay down our arms, surrender, and acknowledge our wrongdoings. This process of surrender is not about being perfect, but about being willing to start anew with a heart that is open to God's guidance and direction. As the Bible says, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9). We must also commit to keeping our commitments, even when it's difficult, and trust God to lead us one step at a time. As the psalmist writes, "Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart to him, for God is our refuge" (Psalm 62:8).

Starting over requires a willingness to change our minds and, thus, change our lives. This is a process that takes time, and it's essential to start small and realign our thinking with God's thinking. As the Bible says, "Do not be conformed to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind" (Romans 12:2). We must be proactive about developing a new strategy to handle failure, pray for God's guidance, and apply our new approach to the next failure that comes our way. By doing so, we can break free from the cycle of failure and start anew, with a heart that is surrendered to God and a mind that is renewed by His Word.
