Is it wrong to feel angry at God?

The Bible teaches that anger is a wrong emotion if directed against the wrong object (God, an innocent person, a thing), if for the wrong cause (personal offense, pride), or if it leads to wrong behavior (retaliation, vengeance, physical violence). However, it is not wrong to feel angry at God in the sense of being upset or frustrated with him. In fact, the Bible says that God is only angry where anger is called for, and that his holy rage is under the perfect control of limitless love. This means that God's anger is not like ours, and that it is infused with holy purpose.

The Bible also teaches that our anger can be a right and necessary reaction to objective moral evil. For example, if we witness injustice and are unmoved, we do not love the victim. Similarly, if God sees injustice and does not act, he does not love the victim. This means that our anger can be a way of expressing our love for God and for others, and that it can be a way of standing up for what is right.

However, it is also possible for our anger to be a wrong emotion if our motives are mixed. For example, if we are angry because we feel personally offended or because we feel that our rights have been violated, then our anger is not about God or about what is right, but about ourselves. In this case, our anger can lead to wrong behavior, such as retaliation or vengeance. Therefore, it is not wrong to feel angry at God, but it is wrong to allow our anger to become a source of sin in our lives. Instead, we should seek to understand God's love and to trust him, even in the midst of our anger. We should ask ourselves, "Is my anger about God, or is it about me?" and seek to have our hearts transformed by God's love.
