The Point of Fighting: Understanding the Spiritual Battle

The question "what's the point of fighting if I'm just going to lose?" suggests a sense of futility and hopelessness in the face of spiritual opposition. However, the Bible teaches us that the battle for our lives is fought and won in our minds (2 Cor. 10:5). God wants us to take control of our minds, in Jesus' name, through the power of His Holy Spirit (2 Cor. 10:5). We can think our way into changing our lives for good (Phil. 4:8). The Enemy, Satan, wants to steal from us everything we value and destroy us (John 10:10). He tries to outwait us and outfight us, but God fights for us and gives us the resources of Jesus Christ in our fight.

The Victory is Assured

The victory in our spiritual battle is assured because of Jesus' accomplished work on the cross. He has established a beachhead of victory, and we can move forward from this foundation of victory (Eph. 2:6). We may not win every battle on this earth, but our ultimate victory is in heaven (Col. 3:1-4). We are given the promise of victory, and we are called to endure hardship with perseverance, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus (2 Tim. 2:3). We need to engage the opposition in spiritual combat, and we can do this by winning the battle in our minds. This is not a fight or a heated exchange, but a series of statements leading to a conclusion.

The Importance of Perseverance

Perseverance is essential in our spiritual battle. We need to be willing to fight and to persevere, even when the battle seems lost. We can't let our circumstances or the pressure from the Enemy dictate our actions. We need to take control of our minds and engage the opposition in spiritual combat. The harder we fight, the more the quicksand weighs us down, but we need to keep fighting because the ultimate goal is to fit the struggle within our life purpose. We have a purpose in life, and we need to stay focused on that purpose, even in the face of opposition. By persevering and engaging the opposition, we can win the battle and experience the victory that God has promised us.
