The Question: What's the point of fighting if I'm just going to lose?

The Futility of Fighting in the World

At first glance, it may seem like the point of fighting is to win, but when we consider our battles in the external world, we often find ourselves on the losing end. We may try to fight with our own strength, but it's a losing battle because we're fighting the wrong enemy. We're fighting against people, circumstances, and the world, but we're not fighting the spiritual forces that are behind them. When we try to fight in our own strength, we'll always lose because we're not equipped with the spiritual resources we need to win. The Bible says, "We do not fight against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world and against spiritual wickedness in high places" (Ephesians 6:12).

The Importance of Spiritual Warfare

However, there is a different kind of fighting that is essential for the Christian life. This is spiritual warfare, where we engage in battle with the spiritual forces that are opposing us. This kind of fighting is not about winning or losing in the external world, but about standing firm in our faith and resisting the temptations and attacks of the enemy. When we engage in spiritual warfare, we're not fighting against people or circumstances, but against the spiritual forces that are behind them. We're fighting for our souls, our hearts, and our minds, and we're fighting to stay focused on our ultimate goal of glorifying God. The Bible says, "Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes" (Ephesians 6:11).

The Victory is in Heaven

So, what's the point of fighting if we're just going to lose? The point is not to win in the external world, but to stand firm in our faith and to fight for our souls. Our ultimate goal is not to win a battle in this life, but to win the battle for eternal life. The Bible says, "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms" (Ephesians 6:12). We may not win every battle in this life, but we will win the ultimate victory in heaven. As the Bible says, "We are more than conquerors through him who loved us" (Romans 8:37). Our victory is not in this life, but in the life to come. We fight because it's the right thing to do, because it's essential for our spiritual growth and maturity, and because it's a sign of our love for God. We fight because we know that we have a self-centered heart and that we need to repent and examine ourselves. We fight because we know that we have a purpose in life, and that our ultimate goal is to glorify God. We fight because we know that we have the spiritual resources we need to win, and that we can receive spiritual resources to fight a winning battle. We fight because we know that we may not win today, but we will win in the end. We fight because it's the right thing to do. And we fight because we know that we have a loving God who fights for us and who gives us the strength to overcome any obstacle.
