Biblical Answer

Jesus teaches us not to worry about our life, but to seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness. In Matthew 6:25-34, Jesus emphasizes that worry is irrational, unproductive, and even pagan. He reminds us that God will supply our physical needs if we make obedient discipleship our chief concern. Jesus also teaches that from God's standpoint, it is absolutely unreasonable for us to be anxious, worrying about how we will live. He forbids worry three times in this passage, saying, "Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life" (Matt. 6:25), "Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow" (Matt. 6:34), and "Do not be anxious about anything" (Phil. 4:6).

The reason we should not worry is that God cares for us and is in control of our lives. Jesus reminds us that we are more valuable than many sparrows, and that God knows the number of hairs on our head (Matt. 10:29-30). He also teaches us that we should not worry about our physical needs, but rather seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness. This means that we should prioritize our relationship with God and our obedience to him above all else. When we do this, God will supply our physical needs, and we will experience peace and contentment in our lives.

Jesus also teaches us that worry can choke out our relationship with God. In Matthew 13:22, Jesus says that the cares of this world can choke out the Word of God in our lives. This means that if we are preoccupied with worry and anxiety, we will not have room for God's Word and His presence in our lives. Instead, we should pray and seek God's guidance and provision in our lives. As Paul says, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God" (Phil. 4:6). When we do this, we will experience God's peace and provision in our lives, and we will be able to live a life that is free from worry and anxiety.
