The Lethality of Hopelessness

Hopelessness is a lethal condition that can arise when we either kill hope or never nurtured it. It can be a result of dashed hopes, disappointment, or despair. When we lose hope, we can feel like we're protecting ourselves from further pain, but in reality, we're dooming ourselves to lifelessness. Hope is a skill that develops over time, and it's also a corporate venture that requires the reminders of the body of Christ. It's essential to commit ourselves to a church where the story of God's hope is told and seek opportunities for daily reminders.

The Power of Hope in Christ

As Christians, we have grounds for optimism because we know that God is sovereign over all creation and has a plan to redeem us. We can look to God for hope, and it's essential to build our hope on Him. No matter how many things seem to be pressing in on us, we can push them aside and look to Him. In Psalm 27:4, we read, "One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in His temple." Hopelessness means that we're unwilling to wait, and we want something more than we want Jesus. However, when we know Jesus, we can have hope, even in the midst of suffering.

Finding Hope in Christ

To find hope in Christ, we need to look to Him and build our hope on Him. We can't always achieve our hopes on our own, and we need some help to make our hopes a reality. As the psalmist says, "Hope takes practice" (Psalm 27:4). We need to commit ourselves to a life of trust and obedience to God, and we need to seek opportunities for daily reminders of His hope. We can also look to the body of Christ for support and encouragement. By doing so, we can develop the skill of hope and live a life that reflects Christian values and teachings. Ultimately, our hope in Christ gives us the strength to persevere through suffering and to look forward to a brighter future. As Jesus says, "Salvation is yours the moment you look" (Isaiah 45:22).
