The Loss of Identity and Security

The loss of a business, identity, and savings can be a devastating experience. It's a crisis that can shake one's sense of security and identity. In the midst of such a crisis, it's easy to feel like we've lost control and that our lives are no longer our own. This is exactly what happened to me when I lost Liberty University. If the university collapsed, I would have lost my most important contribution to the cause of Christ. Similarly, you may have lost your business, and with it, your sense of identity and purpose.

The Illusion of Security

The truth is that our security and identity are not rooted in our possessions, businesses, or savings. As the Bible says, "You cannot serve both God and money" (Luke 16:13). When we put our trust in material things, we're setting ourselves up for disappointment and loss. We think that if we just have enough money, the right job, or the perfect business, we'll be secure and happy. But the reality is that these things can be taken away from us in an instant. As the verse says, "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?" (Mark 8:36). True security and identity come from our relationship with God, not from our possessions.

The Freedom of Surrender

When we lose our businesses, identities, and savings, it can be a painful experience. But it can also be a liberating one. When we surrender our lives to God, we're freed from the fear of loss and the burden of responsibility. We're no longer tied to our possessions and businesses, and we're free to live for something greater than ourselves. This freedom is not just a feeling; it's a reality that comes from surrendering our lives to God and trusting in His sovereignty.
