Modeling a Heart of Self-Sacrifice

As parents, we have a vital responsibility to teach our children how to guard their hearts and develop a heart of obedience. This involves modeling self-sacrifice and teaching them to put others first. The Bible teaches us that self-sacrifice is God's way of loving, and that we should love others as God loved us (John 15:13). When we prioritize our own interests over the needs of others, we demonstrate a lack of love and compassion. Instead, we should strive to put the needs of others before our own, just as Jesus did (Philippians 2:3-4).

To model a heart of self-sacrifice, we must be willing to make sacrifices for our children. This means putting their needs before our own and being willing to give up our own desires for the sake of our family. As the Bible says, "If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me" (Luke 9:23). When we sacrifice for our children, we demonstrate our love for them and teach them the importance of putting others first. This will help them develop a heart of obedience and a willingness to serve others.

In teaching our children to put others first, we should emphasize the importance of serving others as a way of serving Jesus. As the Bible says, "Whatever you do for the least of these brothers of mine, you do for me" (Matthew 25:40). When our children serve others, they are serving Jesus and demonstrating their love for Him. We should encourage them to look for opportunities to serve others and to prioritize the needs of others before their own. By modeling a heart of self-sacrifice and teaching our children to put others first, we can help them develop a heart of obedience and a strong moral impulse to serve others.
