Do I have to forgive someone who isn't sorry?

The Bible teaches us that we must forgive others, even if they do not ask for forgiveness or do not seem to deserve it. In Luke 17:3, Jesus says, "If your brother sins, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him." However, the Bible also teaches us that forgiveness is not the same as reconciliation or forgetting what happened. Forgiveness is a decision we make to release the other person from our anger and resentment, even if they do not ask for forgiveness or do not seem to deserve it.

In fact, the Bible teaches us that we are not required to tell the person we have forgiven that we have forgiven them. In fact, it could do more harm than good. The key is to forgive the person, not for their sake, but for our own sake. When we forgive, we release the negative emotions that can eat away at our soul and bring death into our life. Forgiveness is a gift we give to ourselves, not the other person.

When we forgive, we might feel they are getting something they don't deserve, but the unforgiving spirit can bring death into our life in one form or another. The best way to become forgiving is to pray for the person you need to forgive. Even though it may seem hard at first, once you get into the habit of praying for them, you will find it easier to forgive. Ultimately, forgiveness is not about the other person; it's about us and our relationship with God.
