In the darkest night, when love is put to the test, hope can be sparked by the realization that love has the power to transform and redeem. As John 1:5 says, "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." Even in the midst of pain and suffering, love can bring a sense of peace and comfort that points beyond the darkness to a greater reality. This is evident in the way that Jesus' love on the cross transformed the darkness of sin and death, and brought light and life to all who believe.

When love is put to the test, hope can also be sparked by the realization that love is not just a feeling, but a choice that we make every day. As 1 Corinthians 13:13 says, "And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." Love is not just a sentimental feeling, but a commitment to put the needs of others before our own, and to seek the good of those around us. This is evident in the way that Jesus loved his disciples, and put their needs before his own, even to the point of giving his life for them.
