Understanding the Purpose of Prayer

Prayer is not just about changing circumstances or seeking answers to our problems, but about deepening our relationship with God and allowing Him to work in our lives. As the prophet Samuel said, "Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by ceasing to pray for you" (1 Samuel 12:23 nasb). This verse highlights the importance of prayer as a means of fellowship and oneness with God. When we pray, we are not just asking God to change things for us, but we are also surrendering ourselves to His will and allowing Him to work in our lives.

The Role of Prayer in Our Lives

Prayer is not about seeking answers or trying to change God's mind, but about allowing God to work in our lives and change us. As the Bible says, "Prayer is the battle" (Matthew 11:25). This means that prayer is not just about seeking answers, but about engaging with God and allowing Him to work in our lives. Some people may ask, "If God is in control and already knows how everything will turn out, what's the point of praying?" However, this perspective misunderstands the nature of prayer. Prayer is not about trying to change God's mind or alter His will, but about aligning ourselves with His will and allowing Him to work in our lives. As the Bible says, "God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?" (Numbers 23:19). This verse highlights the sovereignty of God and the fact that He is not a man who can change His mind.
