The Reality of Betrayal

The question of why God allowed a family member to betray us is a difficult and painful one. It is natural to feel hurt, anger, and confusion when someone we love and trust betrays us. However, it is essential to understand that God's sovereignty and love are not diminished by human betrayal. In the Bible, we see examples of God's people betraying Him, and He does not spare them the consequences of their actions (e.g., Israel's disobedience and disloyalty). Similarly, when we are betrayed by someone we love, it is not a reflection of God's love or sovereignty.

Understanding God's Perspective

God's perspective on human betrayal is not the same as ours. He knows the hearts of all individuals, including those who betray us (John 6:70-71). In the case of Judas Iscariot, Jesus knew well beforehand that he would betray Him, yet He did not prevent it. Instead, Jesus told Judas to do it quickly (John 13:27). This example illustrates that God's sovereignty is not bound by human actions or prayers. He can grant forgiveness and love to those who betray us, not because we deserve it, but because of His nature as a loving God. As the Bible says, "How can it change God's will?... Surely He has not to forgive me for sins I didn't commit" (Psalm 51:4).

Finding Comfort in God's Love

The experience of betrayal can distort our vision of God, leading us to believe that He is distant or unloving. However, this is not the case. God's love for us is not diminished by human betrayal. In fact, His love is the foundation of our salvation and redemption. As we navigate the pain of betrayal, we must remember that God's love is not conditional on human actions. He loves us unconditionally, and His love is the source of our strength and comfort. As we seek to understand why God allowed our family member to betray us, we must look to His Word for guidance and comfort. Ultimately, God's love and sovereignty are not diminished by human betrayal, and He is always present to comfort and forgive us.
