Why did God allow my family member to betray me?

Understanding God's Sovereignty

God's sovereignty is a fundamental aspect of His nature. He is the Creator and Sustainer of all things, and His will is always accomplished. This means that God is not limited by human actions or circumstances. In the Bible, we see examples of God's sovereignty in action, such as when Judas betrayed Jesus (John 6:70-71). Jesus knew that Judas would betray Him, but He still chose to trust God and fulfill His purpose.

God's Purposes in Betrayal

Betrayal can be a painful and confusing experience, especially when it comes from a family member. However, we must understand that God's purposes are often hidden from us, and we may not see the bigger picture. In the case of Judas, his betrayal of Jesus was not a surprise to God, but it was a fulfillment of God's plan to save humanity through Jesus' death and resurrection (John 6:70-71). Similarly, God may allow betrayal in our lives to bring us closer to Him or to test our faith. It is not that God is punishing us or that He is somehow pleased with our suffering, but rather that He is working all things together for our good (Romans 8:28).

Finding Comfort in God's Forgiveness

When we are betrayed, it can be tempting to question God's love and sovereignty. However, we must remember that God is a God of forgiveness and mercy. He loves us unconditionally and desires a personal relationship with us. In 1 John 1:7, we read, "The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin." This means that no matter what we have done, including betraying others, God will forgive us if we repent and turn to Him. We can find comfort in God's forgiveness and trust that He is working all things together for our good, even in the midst of betrayal. Ultimately, our relationship with God is not defined by our circumstances, but by our faith in Him.
