Psalm 130 is a helpful psalm for depression. This psalm expresses the depth of the psalmist's depression, but also his trust in God. The psalmist says, "Out of the depths I cry to you, Lord; Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy. If you, Lord, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness, that you may be revered" (Psalm 130:1-4). This psalm reminds us that God has taken the initiative to forgive our sins, and that he does not forgive us again and again. Instead, he forgives us once and for all. This is a powerful reminder for those who are struggling with depression, as they can easily become trapped in their own guilt and shame.

Another psalm that is helpful for depression is Psalm 46. This psalm talks about treacherous circumstances, but also about God's presence in the midst of those circumstances. The psalmist says, "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging" (Psalm 46:1-3). Psalm 42 is also a helpful psalm for depression. This psalm expresses the psalmist's longing for God, and his desire to be near him. The psalmist says, "As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with you, O God? My tears have been my food day and night, while they say to me all day long, Where is your God?" (Psalm 42:1-3). This psalm reminds us that God is always available to us, and that we can come to him at any time. He is our living God, and he will meet with us and comfort us in the midst of our depression.
