Can I Really Trust My Instincts in This Situation?

As a follower of Jesus Christ, we are called to trust in His sovereignty and guidance in all areas of life, including our instincts. However, the Bible also warns us against blindly trusting our own judgment, especially when it comes to spiritual matters (Proverbs 3:5-6). In this situation, we need to consider whether our instincts are truly being guided by the Holy Spirit or if they are influenced by our own biases, emotions, or even demonic deception.

To discern whether we can trust our instincts, we must examine the source of our thoughts and feelings. Are they aligned with God's Word and character, or are they driven by our own desires and fears? We must also consider the consequences of our actions based on our instincts. Will they lead us to obedience to God's will, or will they lead us down a path of disobedience and harm? As the Bible says, "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked. Who can know it?" (Jeremiah 17:9). Therefore, we must be cautious and not rely solely on our own instincts, but rather seek guidance from God's Word and prayer.

Ultimately, trusting our instincts in this situation requires a deep dependence on God's guidance and wisdom. We must be willing to submit our thoughts and feelings to Him, and ask for His direction and discernment. As Jesus said, "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you" (John 15:7). By seeking God's guidance and wisdom, we can learn to trust our instincts in a way that is pleasing to Him and beneficial to ourselves and others. As we walk in obedience to God's will, we will grow in our ability to discern His voice and follow His leading, even in uncertain and challenging situations.
