Understanding Gods Sovereignty in Suffering

When we lose our ability to work, it can be a puzzling and frustrating experience. We may wonder if God has taken away our ability to work for some reason, or if we are simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. However, as the Book of Job teaches us, Gods ways are not always easy to understand. Job, a righteous man, suffered greatly, and he questioned Gods goodness and justice. Yet, when God appeared to him, Job submitted to God without an explanation of why he suffered.

In the same way, when we suffer or lose our ability to work, we may not understand why God is allowing it. But, as the Book of Job shows us, God is not obligated to explain Himself to us. He is the Creator, and we are the creatures. We do not have the power to restrain wickedness or change Gods will. Our job, as believers, is to trust in God and His sovereignty, even when we do not understand why things are happening. As the Bible says, "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28).

Finding Purpose in Suffering

So, how can we find purpose in suffering or losing our ability to work? The answer lies in understanding Gods sovereignty and purpose in our lives. As believers, we are called to serve the Lord, not people. Our work, whether as an employer, employee, or self-employed, is to be done as if we were serving the Lord. This means being wholehearted and dedicated to our work, even when it is difficult or painful. As the Book of Job teaches us, suffering can be a means of grace, allowing God to work in our lives and grow our faith. By trusting in God and His sovereignty, we can learn to keep on living by the grace of God, even in the midst of suffering.
