Your Question:

Can I still have a sense of belonging?

Answer:

As I reflect on the concept of belonging, I'm reminded of the significance of being part of the Christian community. To belong to Christ means living in the sphere of his power, being united with him through the Spirit, and having become a part of the Christian community by baptism. This sense of belonging brings about a new creation, where the old has gone, and the new has come. It's a transformative experience that changes one's outlook and leads to a new holiness of life.

However, I also recognize that our sense of identity and belonging can be complex and multifaceted. We may find ourselves torn between different identities or struggling to fully express ourselves. But, as the passage suggests, there is a deeper sense of belonging that awaits us, a subversive fulfillment of our desires, assumptions, and predispositions that will surprise, delight, and fulfill us in ways we can't yet imagine.

In my own life, I've experienced a sense of belonging through my marriage to Susan and my relationships with our children, Joshua and Rebecca. We've built a life together as a family, and I've found a sense of purpose and belonging through my work as a pastor at our local evangelical church. While our sense of identity and belonging can be complex, I believe that it's possible to cultivate a deeper sense of belonging through our relationships with others and our connection to something greater than ourselves.
