Will I lose my home?
The Dangers of Excessive Attachment to Material Possessions
As Christians, we must be aware of the dangers of excessive attachment to material possessions, including our homes. In the Bible, we are reminded that our true home is not of this world, but in heaven with God (John 14:12). This means that we should not become overly attached to our earthly homes, but rather view them as temporary dwellings that will eventually pass away (1 John 2:17). The Bible teaches that "the world and its desires will pass away, but whoever does the will of God will live forever" (1 John 2:17). Therefore, we must not prioritize our material possessions, including our homes, over our relationship with God.
The Sovereignty of God
In the face of uncertainty and change, we must remember that God is sovereign over all creation, including the events that affect our lives. He is the one who "works all things together for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose" (Romans 8:28). This means that even in the midst of change and uncertainty, God is working all things together for our good. We can trust in His sovereignty and know that He will provide for us, even if our earthly homes are taken away.
The Importance of a Personal Relationship with God
Ultimately, our security and stability come not from our material possessions, but from our personal relationship with God. When we have a deep and abiding relationship with God, we can face any change or uncertainty with confidence and trust. We can know that God is with us, guiding and directing us, even in the midst of uncertainty. As Jesus said, "Let not your heart be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me" (John 14:1). May we prioritize our relationship with God above all else, and may we trust in His sovereignty and provision in all things. In the end, it is not our homes that will bring us security and stability, but our relationship with God. Will we lose our home? Perhaps. But even if we do, we will not lose our true home, which is in heaven with God.
