Your Question:

Why does God allow chronic pain to continue?

Answer:

As a pastor and a follower of God, I've grappled with this question many times. I believe that God allows chronic pain to continue as a reminder of our human brokenness and alienation from Him. It's a wake-up call that prompts us to seek outside assistance and turn to God in repentance and faith. If God were to shield us from all reminders of our sin and brokenness, He would be a deceiver, leading us to believe we don't really need Him.

In the Bible, we see examples of people who suffered greatly, yet still turned to God in faith. Job, for instance, was afflicted with severe physical and emotional pain, yet he refused to turn away from God. Instead, he acknowledged his sin and God's sovereignty, and ultimately found comfort in His presence. Similarly, the psalmist in Psalm 38 describes his agony and guilt, yet still turns to God in prayer, seeking His mercy and forgiveness.

I believe that God allows chronic pain to continue because it serves a greater purpose. It forces us to confront our own limitations and weaknesses, and to seek God's strength and guidance. It also gives us the opportunity to trust in God's goodness and sovereignty, even when we don't understand the reasons behind our suffering. As the Bible says, "God is our nearest environment," and He is always working, even in the midst of pain and suffering, to bring us closer to Himself.
