Is there any hope left?
The Certainty of Hope in Christ
In a world where hope seems to be dwindling, it is easy to lose sight of the possibility of a brighter future. However, as Christians, we are reminded that our hope is not in the fleeting nature of human existence, but in the eternal and unchanging nature of God. Through the redemptive work of Christ, we have a sure hope that transcends the present moment and looks to a future that is yet to come. This hope is not based on our own abilities or circumstances, but on the sovereignty and power of God, who promises to bring about a new creation where sin and death will be defeated (Romans 8:18-25).
The Necessity of Faith
For many, the idea of hope seems like a distant memory, a chimera that has been lost in the midst of disappointment and despair. However, without faith in God's wisdom, sovereignty, and power, hope is indeed a fleeting concept. As Job so eloquently expressed, our hopes seem to be experiencing disappointment right now, but it simply means that they are being purified (Job 19:25-27). Every hope or dream of the human mind will be fulfilled if it is noble and pure, and if it is grounded in the truth of God's Word. In this sense, hope is not something that we can conjure up on our own, but it is a gift that is given to us through faith in God.
The Certainty of Our Calling
As Christians, our calling has a landing place that is hope. This hope is both individual, in terms of my walk with God, and corporate, in terms of people able to walk together without hostility. It is a certain hope that is grounded in the promises of God and the redemptive work of Christ. In this sense, we can be confident that our hopes will not be defeated, but will be fulfilled in the end. As we walk by faith and not by sight, we can trust that God is working all things together for our good, and that our hope will not be in vain (Romans 8:28). In the midst of uncertainty and doubt, we can hold fast to the certainty of our calling, and the hope that is given to us through faith in God.
