The Futility of Prayer

The question of whether prayer is futile when it seems like God isn't listening is a common concern. Some may feel that their prayers go unanswered, leading them to doubt God's presence or power. The issue is not that God doesn't hear our prayers, but rather that we may not understand why He answers them the way He does.

Listening to God is an active discipline that requires us to set aside distractions and focus on Him. It's a posture of the heart that allows us to hear His voice and understand His will. Maintaining an Ongoing Conversation

Even when we don't get our answers to prayer, the most important reason for prayer remains: maintaining an ongoing conversation and building an intimate relationship with God. Prayer is not just about getting what we want, but about talking to God and listening to Him. It's about building a relationship with Him, and that relationship is the most important thing. So even if God refuses to grant our specific petitions, we should continue to pray and maintain an ongoing conversation with Him. This is because prayer has a built-in logic of mediation, a directionality, a grain. And that grain becomes more evident when we do something that runs a little bit against the grain, like praying by faith, but the answer didn't come. We should not be deterred from prayer just because we don't get our answers. Instead, we should continue to pray and maintain an ongoing conversation with God.
