Why do I feel like I'm being abandoned by God?
The feeling of being abandoned by God is a common experience for many people, especially during times of suffering and hardship. However, this feeling is often rooted in a lack of understanding about God's sovereignty and His ways. When we feel abandoned, it's often because we're looking at the situation from a human perspective, focusing on our own circumstances and feelings, rather than seeing the bigger picture of God's plan and purpose.
One of the main reasons people feel abandoned by God is because they're not surrendering to Him. They're holding onto their own desires, expectations, and plans, and not trusting God to work everything out for their good (Romans 8:28). This can lead to feelings of frustration, anger, and despair. But God is not a distant, uncaring God. He is a loving Father who desires to have a personal relationship with each of us. He is always working, always seeking to draw us closer to Himself, even in the midst of suffering.
So, what can we do when we feel abandoned by God? First, we need to recognize that our feelings can lie. Just because we feel abandoned doesn't mean it's true. Second, we need to surrender to God, abandoning ourselves to His plan and purpose. This means letting go of our own desires and expectations, and trusting God to work everything out for our good. Finally, we need to focus on God's character and promises, rather than our own circumstances. When we do this, we'll begin to see that God is not absent, but present, working everything out for our good, even in the midst of suffering. As the Bible says, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28).
