Your Question:

Why me? Why now? Why cancer?

Answer:

I'm John, a pastor and a husband to Susan for 19 years. I've walked through the valley of the shadow of death, and I've asked myself the same question: "Why me? Why now? Why cancer?" I've come to realize that even though we pray and have faith, the outcome and timing are God's decisions. He says there is a time to heal (Ecclesiastes 3:3), but it's not always the timing we expect or desire.

I've seen firsthand the devastating effects of cancer on families. I've stood by the bedside of a woman whose thighbone was eaten through with cancer, and I've seen the suffering and pain it brings. But I've also seen miracles, like the woman who was given a year to live and was walking uphill a year later. God is glorified when we have faith in Him in spite of our circumstances. We must never question God because of our circumstances, but rather believe Him, no matter what.

As I reflect on my own experience, I realize that even though I was diagnosed with cancer, it was later found to be a misdiagnosis. The biopsy was mistaken, and I actually had a relatively mild form of cancer. I was given a second chance, and I'm grateful for it. I know that God sometimes uses a person's physical ailments to get their attention so He can speak to them. In my case, it was a wake-up call to deepen my faith and trust in God's sovereignty.
