Biblical Answer

Jesus teaches us not to worry in the Sermon on the Mount. He says, "Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life" (Matt. 6:25). This is a command, not a suggestion. He explains that worry is irrational, unproductive, and even pagan. Jesus promises that God will supply physical needs for the follower who makes obedient discipleship their chief concern. He reminds us that God is a generous God who gives the kingdom to his children and is pleased to do so (Matt. 6:32-33). Jesus also reminds us that he is always with us, and we can trust in him (Matt. 28:20). He says, "My peace I give to you; do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid" (John 14:27).

Worry is a great inhibitor of action, and to live in worry is to miss what life is all about. Jesus teaches us to seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added to us (Matt. 6:33). Worrying means accusing God of not being able to provide for us. Jesus says, "Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?" (Matt. 7:9). He reminds us that God will provide for us, and we can trust in him. Paul also reminds us not to worry, but to pray about everything (Phil. 4:6). He says, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God" (Phil. 4:6).

Jesus teaches us that we must become the kinds of people who have learned to trust in God so deeply that we are free of fear. We must train our minds and bodies to trust in God. This means that we must listen to God's word and trust in his promises. Jesus says, "I will never leave you nor forsake you" (Heb. 13:5). We can trust in him, and he will provide for us. We must not let our worries and fears control us, but instead, we must trust in God and his promises. As Jesus says, "Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid" (John 14:27). We can trust in him, and he will be with us always.
