Jesus teaches against worry in the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 6:25-34). He says, "Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on" (Matthew 6:25). Jesus teaches that worry is irrational, unproductive, and even pagan. He promises that God will supply physical needs for the follower who makes obedient discipleship his chief concern. Jesus also forbids worry, saying, "Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble" (Matthew 6:34).

Jesus' teachings on worry are not just about avoiding worry, but also about trusting in God's provision and care. He says, "But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you" (Matthew 6:33). This means that we are to prioritize our relationship with God and His kingdom above our own concerns and worries. Jesus also reminds us that He is a generous God who gives the kingdom to His children and is pleased to do so. This should give us confidence and peace, even in the midst of uncertainty.

In addition to Jesus' teachings, the apostle Paul also addresses the issue of worry in his letter to the Philippians. He writes, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God" (Philippians 4:6). Paul's advice is to take our worries and concerns to God in prayer, and to trust in His sovereignty and provision. By doing so, we can experience peace and confidence, even in the midst of uncertainty. Ultimately, Jesus' teachings and Paul's advice remind us that worry is not a necessary or productive response to life's challenges, but rather a sign of our lack of trust in God's goodness and provision.
