Will There Be Marriage in Heaven?

When considering the question of whether there will be marriage in heaven, we must first examine what the Bible teaches about the nature of marriage and relationships in the afterlife. According to Jesus, there will be no marrying or giving in marriage in the resurrection (Matthew 22:30; Mark 12:25; Luke 20:35). This statement suggests that the institution of marriage as we know it will cease to exist in the heavenly realm.

However, this does not necessarily mean that relationships between men and women will cease to exist. In fact, the Bible describes the union between Christ and the church as a marriage, with Christ being the husband and the church being the bride (Ephesians 5:25-33). This analogy suggests that the relationship between Christ and the church is one of mutual love, commitment, and intimacy, which is often associated with marriage.

But will there be marriage between individuals in heaven, as we know it in this life? The Bible does not provide a clear answer to this question. While it is true that the angels in heaven are described as being like the angels of God and do not marry or give in marriage (Matthew 22:30), this does not necessarily mean that human beings will not experience some form of intimacy or union in heaven. The Bible teaches that in heaven, we will be united with Christ and with one another in a way that transcends human understanding (1 Corinthians 13:12). While the nature of this union is not fully comprehensible to us, it is clear that it will be a deeply intimate and loving relationship. Therefore, while the specifics of marriage in heaven are not fully understood, it is clear that the institution of marriage as we know it will cease to exist, and that relationships in heaven will be characterized by a deeper and more intimate union with Christ and with one another.
