Your Question:
What do I do when I feel like I'm at my breaking point?
Answer:
As someone who has walked through the valley of depression and has helped many others navigate it, I've come to realize that when you feel like you're at your breaking point, the first step is to identify any sin in your life. Sin can be a root cause of depression, and it's essential to confess it and let go of it. Repeatedly lying or wanting to die can become entrenched habits, making it challenging to break free from the cycle of depression. To get out of this darkness, you need to begin to know things for yourself, to have spiritual discernment. This means getting out past the harbor of familiar thoughts and emotions and into the great depths of God. It's a journey of spiritual growth, where you learn to examine your life, identify areas where you've become sluggish or lost interest spiritually, and make amends. You need to change the way you think, and this starts by becoming aware of negative thoughts and replacing them with positive ones. When you're at your breaking point, it's essential to ask yourself what you're getting out of your depression. Are you using it as a way to avoid responsibilities or relationships? Are you trying to control others or situations? Once you understand the root cause of your depression, you can begin to work on changing your thoughts, behaviors, and attitudes. It's a journey that requires courage, honesty, and a willingness to seek help and support from God and others. As I always say to my congregation at the church I pastor, "Help is just a prayer away."
