Showing Love to Those Who Are Struggling: A Biblical Perspective

When life gets busy, it's easy to overlook the needs of those around us, especially when they're struggling. However, as Christians, we're called to love our neighbors as ourselves (Matthew 22:39). To show love to those who are struggling, we need to recognize that our true needs can only be met in and by God (Psalm 62:5). This means that we can't rely solely on human relationships to fulfill our emotional and spiritual needs.

Understanding and Empathy

To show love to those who are struggling, we need to understand and empathize with their situation. This means trying to see things from their perspective, rather than imposing our own pace or expectations on them. As the Bible says, "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud" (1 Corinthians 13:4). We need to be patient and kind, and to recognize that others may be struggling to cope with their circumstances. This might mean setting aside our own busy schedules to listen to them, to offer support, or to simply be present with them.

Creative Expression of Love

When it comes to showing love to those who are struggling, we need to be creative and flexible. We can't always expect people to respond positively to traditional forms of love, such as words of encouragement or acts of service. Instead, we need to find ways to connect with them in their own language, whether that's through a walk, a prayer, or a simple act of kindness. As the Bible says, "Love is not self-seeking" (1 Corinthians 13:5). We need to be willing to put others' needs before our own, and to find ways to show love that are tailored to their unique circumstances. By doing so, we can show love to those who are struggling, and help them to feel seen, heard, and valued.
