The Loss of Identity: A Spiritual Perspective

It's common to feel like we're losing our identity with each passing day, especially when we're faced with the challenges of life. However, from a spiritual perspective, our identity is not something that can be lost or changed overnight. As the Bible says, "You are not yourself today!" (1 Corinthians 15:55-57). This doesn't mean that we're losing our identity, but rather that we're acting out of character, acting strangely or unexpectedly, given what we know about ourselves.

The reason we feel like we're losing our identity is often because we're not focused on our spiritual lives. We're not concentrating on our relationship with God, and we're not allowing Him to guide us through the ups and downs of life. As the author says, "You no more need a day off from spiritual concentration on matters in your life than your heart needs a day off from beating." (The Secret of Spiritual Consistency) We need to be consistently focused on our spiritual growth and development, rather than taking a day off or trying to survive the day.

So, what can we do to regain our sense of identity and purpose? We need to take a closer look at our lives and identify what's been coming between us and God. Is it our pride, our selfishness, or our envy? Is it something that's causing us to act out of character? We need to ask God to reveal this to us, and then make changes to correct it. As the author says, "Realize that something has been coming between you and God, and change or remove it at once." (The Secret of Spiritual Consistency) By doing this, we can regain our sense of identity and purpose, and live a life that reflects our true character and values.
