The Reality of Mortality

The reality of mortality is a harsh one, but it is a reality that we must all face, regardless of our age. As the Bible says, "It is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment" (Hebrews 9:27). This means that whether we are one month old or eighty-eight years old, we are all going to die. It's a reality that can be overwhelming and even terrifying, especially for the young. But it's a reality that we must face head-on and not try to avoid or deny.

Facing our mortality means confronting the possibility of our own death, and the death of those we love. It means acknowledging that our time on this earth is limited and that we will all eventually meet our maker. But it's not just about death; it's also about life. As the Bible says, "For why should you die, O house of Israel? For I have no pleasure in the death of one who dies," says the Lord God. "Therefore turn and live" (Ezekiel 18:31). This verse reminds us that God desires our life and wants us to turn from our sinful ways and live. When we face our mortality, we must also look to God and build our hope on Him. He is the only one who can give us true life and hope in the face of death.

The question of how to face mortality when we're still young is a valid one. But the answer is not to try to escape or deny the reality of death, but to face it head-on and look to God. We must be determined to push aside the things that press in on us and look to Him for hope and salvation. As the Bible says, "Salvation is yours the moment you look" (Psalm 119:173). This means that no matter how young or old we are, we can have hope and salvation in Jesus Christ. We don't have to be controlled by fear or anxiety about death, but can instead look to God and trust in His goodness and mercy. By doing so, we can live a life that is complete and full, even in the face of mortality. As the Bible says, "A complete life is the life of a child" (Psalm 119:173). When we are fully conscious of our dependence on God, we can live a life that is free from the fear of death and filled with hope and joy.
