Your Question:

Why did I have to lose my limb?

Answer:

I am writing to share with you a story about a painful experience I had, which has led me to ask some tough questions about God's sovereignty and our place in the world. As I reflect on my experience, I am reminded of a passage from the Bible that speaks to the idea that God's ways are not our ways, and His thoughts are not our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9). In this passage, God says that He is working out His purposes in the world, even when we cannot understand them.

In my experience, I had to face a painful reality - I broke my leg while skiing. The pain was immense, and I had to undergo surgery and several weeks of recovery. As I looked back on this experience, I began to wonder why God had allowed this to happen to me. Why did He let me break my foot? Or better, Why did God allow me to be careless? I started to think that God could have intervened and prevented the accident from happening. But as I reflected on this, I realized that God's sovereignty is not limited to preventing bad things from happening, but also includes allowing us to experience pain and hardship in order to draw us closer to Himself.

In the Bible, we see examples of people who have experienced pain and hardship, yet still trusted in God's sovereignty. For example, in 2 Corinthians 12:7-10, Paul writes about a thorn in the flesh that he received, which he asked God to remove three times. But God said no, and instead used this thorn to keep Paul from becoming proud. This passage teaches us that God's sovereignty is not about preventing bad things from happening, but about using them to bring about His good purposes in our lives. As I reflect on my experience, I am reminded of the importance of trusting in God's sovereignty, even when we do not understand what is happening. By doing so, we can learn to see God's hand at work in our lives, even in the midst of pain and hardship.
