Will we remember our life on earth?

The Nature of Memory and Remembrance

The Bible teaches that our memories will not be erased in heaven, but rather, we will not need to remember the past in the same way that we do on earth. In Isaiah 65:17, it is written, "Behold, I will create new heavens and a new earth. And the former things shall not be remembered, or come into mind." This verse does not imply that our memories will be wiped clean, but rather, that the old earth and the things that were on it will not be remembered. This is not a brain wipe, but rather a change in perspective.

The Purpose of Remembrance

On earth, we have a tendency to forget who God is and what he has done, even with the constant reminder of Scripture and worship. This forgetfulness is a result of our sinfulness and our lack of intimacy with God. However, in heaven, we will stand before the Lord as sinless children, united with him for eternity. Our memories will not be a vague recollection of our past life, but rather, they will be a reminder of God's goodness and faithfulness. This knowledge will not make us detached from our present life, but rather, it will make every moment more precious and meaningful.

The Significance of Remembrance in Heaven

In heaven, our memories will be a reminder of God's sovereignty and providence over our lives. We will see how he worked all things together for our good, even in the midst of suffering and hardship. Our memories will be a testament to God's faithfulness and love, and they will remind us of our new life in Christ. We will not need to remember the past in the same way that we do on earth, but rather, we will live in the present with a newfound appreciation for God's goodness and faithfulness. Our memories will be a source of joy and wonder, and they will remind us of our eternal life with God.
