Your Question:
What's the difference between a good Christian and someone who is struggling?
Answer:
As a pastor, I've seen many people who are trying to be good, hoping to please God or earn approval from others. But a good Christian is different. They understand that any good they do comes from the Christ-life inside them, not from their own efforts. They know that God doesn't love us because we're good, but that He makes us good because He loves us. A good Christian also recognizes that they are not naturally good people, but rather innately sinful, prone to selfishness. They understand that they need the Holy Spirit's work in their lives to be good. This means they're not perfect, but they're striving to be good in terms of their relationship with God. They're not just trying to do good things, but they're seeking to be good in their hearts, to love God and others. In contrast, someone who is struggling may be trying to be good, but they're not yet in a relationship with Christ. They may be doing good things, but they're not doing them out of a heart that loves God. They may be trying to earn God's approval or be good in their own strength. A good Christian, on the other hand, is someone who is living out of a relationship with Christ, seeking to be good in their hearts and to love God and others.
