When We Can't Afford to Take Care of Ourselves

If you're struggling to afford medication, treatment, or other essential expenses, it's essential to remember that God's sovereignty extends to all areas of life, including our financial and physical well-being. While it's understandable to feel overwhelmed, we must not forget that our primary focus should be on seeking God's guidance and provision. In Psalm 37:4, we're reminded to "delight ourselves in the Lord, and He will give us the desires of our heart." This means trusting in God's goodness and provision, even when we can't afford the things we need.

In times of financial crisis, it's crucial to reassess our priorities and consider what God is asking us to do. As James 1:27 reminds us, "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." This means being willing to make sacrifices and trust in God's provision, even when it's difficult. We must also recognize that God's sovereignty extends to our physical health, and He can bring healing and restoration, even in the midst of financial struggles. In Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus says, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

Ultimately, our trust should be in God's goodness and sovereignty, rather than our own abilities to solve our problems. As Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." We must be willing to trust in God's plan, even when we can't afford to take care of ourselves, and recognize that His provision and guidance are available to us, even in the midst of financial struggles. By seeking God's guidance and provision, we can find peace, rest, and restoration, even in the most challenging circumstances.
