The Paradox of Paying for Ministry

Introduction

When it comes to serving the Lord, we often find ourselves in a paradox. On one hand, we believe that our work is not for personal gain, but for the glory of God. On the other hand, we still need to pay our bills and support our families. This raises the question: how am I supposed to pay for this?

The Biblical Perspective

In the Bible, we see several examples of how God's people were supported in their ministry. For instance, the apostle Paul wrote to the Philippian church, "If he has wronged you at all, or owes you anything, charge that to my account. I, Paul, write this with my own hand: I will repay it" (Philippians 4:3). This suggests that Paul was willing to support others in their ministry, even if it meant sacrificing his own financial interests. Similarly, in 2 Corinthians 11:9, Paul writes, "You would receive me. If he has wronged you at all, or owes you anything, charge that to my account." This implies that Paul was willing to take on the financial burden of supporting others in their ministry.

Trusting God's Provision

So, how do we reconcile the need to pay our bills with the desire to serve the Lord? The answer is to trust God's provision. As the apostle Paul wrote, "My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:19). This means that we don't have to worry about how we will pay for our ministry, because God has promised to provide for us. Of course, this doesn't mean that we shouldn't work hard and be responsible with our finances. But it does mean that we can trust God to provide for us, even when it seems impossible. As the Bible says, "God has enough money to pay His bills when you make sure you are doing His business" (paraphrased from 1 Corinthians 9:7). By trusting God's provision, we can serve Him without worrying about how we will pay for it.
