Faith in the Doctor's Diagnosis

When it comes to trusting our doctors, we often have to exercise faith. We have faith that they have the knowledge and expertise to diagnose our ailments and provide us with the right treatment. This is especially true when we're dealing with complex medical issues or when we're unsure about the best course of action. In a sense, we're trusting our doctors to be God's instruments in helping us to heal and recover. However, as the Bible reminds us, "Faith never judges God by circumstances." (1) This means that we shouldn't base our trust in God or our doctors solely on whether or not they meet our expectations.

The Limitations of Human Authority

Doctors, like all human beings, are limited in their authority and power. They can only prescribe a course of action, but ultimately, it's up to us to follow through with it. This is a fundamental principle of human responsibility, and it's one that we need to remember when dealing with medical professionals. As the Bible says, "The physician who prescribes a course of action to a patient really has no power to enforce that prescription. He or she is in effect saying, If you wish to be healthy, then do this." (2) This means that we can't simply blame our doctors if we don't get the results we want. Instead, we need to take ownership of our own health and well-being.

Trusting God, Not Circumstances

Ultimately, our trust should be in God, not in our doctors or any other human authority. When we trust in God, we're not trusting in circumstances or outcomes; we're trusting in God's sovereignty and goodness. This means that we can have confidence in God's plan, even when things don't go as we expect. As the Bible says, "Don't ask 'Why?' Maybe it's not God's time to give you money. Maybe God will an- swer your prayer in a way that you can't even imagine." (3) By trusting in God, we can have peace and confidence, even in the midst of uncertainty and doubt. This is the kind of faith that can transform our lives and give us a deeper understanding of God's love and sovereignty.
