The Search for Fulfillment in a Job

As Christians, we often look for a job that will bring us fulfillment and happiness. However, the Bible teaches us that our fulfillment and happiness come from a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, not from our job. In Colossians 3:23, Paul reminds us to do our work "heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men." This means that we should approach our work with a sense of purpose and meaning, not just to please our employer or colleagues, but to please God. By doing so, we can find joy and fulfillment in our work, even if it's not our dream job.

The Importance of Energetic Pursuit

While it's true that our job may not bring us transcending fulfillment, it's still important to pursue our career with energy and enthusiasm. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, "Whatever your life's work is, do it well." This means that we should strive to do our best in our job, even if it's not our dream job. By doing so, we can find a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment, and we can also make a positive impact on the world around us. As the Bible says, "Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men" (Colossians 3:23).

Finding Fulfillment in Christ

Ultimately, our fulfillment and happiness come from a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, not from our job. The Bible teaches us that we are "spiritually dead" without "resurrection life" in Christ (Ephesians 2:1). When we put our faith in Jesus, we receive this new life, and we can find fulfillment and happiness in our relationship with Him. As the Bible says, "In Christ we have everything" (Colossians 3:11). So, while we may not find transcending fulfillment in our job, we can find joy and fulfillment in our relationship with Jesus Christ, and we can also find satisfaction and accomplishment in our work. By pursuing our career with energy and enthusiasm, and by keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, we can find fulfillment and happiness in all areas of our lives.
