Why God Allows Suffering and Trials in Our Lives

When we face trials and sufferings, it's natural to ask, "Why is God allowing this to happen to me?" This question reflects our human desire for control and understanding. However, as believers, we must remember that God is sovereign and His ways are not our ways (Isaiah 55:8-9). He is not making us jump through unnecessary hoops, but rather, He is refining us for our good and His glory (Romans 8:28-29).

The doctrine of election tells us that God chose us before the foundation of the world, not because of our merit, but because of His sovereign love and mercy (Ephesians 1:4-5). However, this doesn't mean that we are robots without free will. God grants us autonomy, allowing us to accept or reject Him (Romans 10:9-10). Our prayers and actions can influence His plans, but they don't change His will. As the Bible says, "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart" (Jeremiah 29:13). This means that our relationship with God is not a one-way street, but a two-way conversation.

So, why does God allow trials and sufferings in our lives? One reason is that they help us to deny ourselves, lose ourselves, and find ourselves in Christ (Matthew 16:24-25). When we face challenges, we are forced to rely on God and trust in His goodness and sovereignty. We must not focus on the roadblocks of life, but rather, see the road that God is laying out before us (Proverbs 3:5-6). By surrendering to God and seeking Him with all our hearts, we can experience His peace and comfort, even in the midst of trials and sufferings. As the Bible says, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28).
