God's Sovereignty and Providence in Sickness

When we're too sick to work, it's essential to remember that God is sovereign over all creation, including our health and well-being. The Bible teaches that God created the universe and everything in it, and He sustains and governs it (Psalm 104:24, 30). This means that even in our sickness, God is still in control and working everything out for our good (Romans 8:28). As Jesus said, "My Father is working until now, and I Myself am working" (John 5:17). This verse reminds us that God's work is not limited by human constraints, including sickness.

God's Purpose in Sickness

While it's natural to wonder why God allows us to become sick, the Bible teaches that God is not the author of sickness or disease (Exodus 4:11). Instead, God uses our experiences, including sickness, to refine us and bring us closer to Himself. As the apostle Paul wrote, "We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope" (Romans 5:3-4). In this sense, our sickness can be an opportunity for spiritual growth and development, even if it's not immediately apparent.

Trust and Obedience

When we're too sick to work, it's essential to trust in God's sovereignty and providence, even when we don't understand what's happening. As Jesus taught, "Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? And why do you worry about clothes? Look at the lilies, how they grow. They do not labor or spin" (Luke 12:25-27). Instead of worrying about our health or work, we should focus on trusting God and obeying His will, even if it means taking a break from work. As we seek to glorify God in all aspects of our lives, including our work and health, we can find peace and contentment, even in the midst of sickness.
