Your Question:

How am I going to take care of my parent?

Answer:

As I reflect on how to take care of my parent, I'm reminded that parenting is a lifelong journey, not just for my children, but also for me as a child of God. I submit myself to God, asking Him to help me be the parent and intercessor He wants me to be for my parent. I pray as the Holy Spirit leads me, listening to His prompting in my heart for my parent. I realize that taking care of my parent is not just about providing physical needs, but also about nurturing their spiritual growth and well-being.

As I consider the practical aspects of caring for my parent, I'm reminded that it's essential to evaluate whether it's in their best interests to live in their own home or in a nursing home. While living at home can allow them to share life with the grandchildren and enrich each other, frequent visits with love can also be beneficial in a nursing home setting. I know that I need to leave my own desires and expectations behind and prioritize my parent's needs.

As I look to the future, I recognize that at some point, my parent will need to take on more responsibility for their own life. I'll need to transition from being in authority to walking alongside them, cheering them on and encouraging them. I'll be available for counsel, to give input, and to share wisdom when they need it. I'll also need to establish clear guidelines for the home, including consequences for infractions, to ensure that everyone knows what is expected of them.
