Your Question:
What is the best way to show kindness to those around us?
Answer:
As a pastor and a father, I believe that showing kindness to those around us is a vital part of living out our faith. One of the best ways to do this is by putting on a friendly manner, even when we're not feeling particularly friendly. By doing so, we can often find that our behavior starts to reflect our intentions, and we genuinely begin to feel friendlier. This is a powerful way to demonstrate the love of Christ to others, and it's something that I've seen work in my own life and in the lives of my children. In our household, we've made it a point to teach our children the importance of kindness and good manners. We've encouraged them to help others, whether it's cutting the grass for an elderly neighbor or baking cookies for police officers and firefighters. We've also taught them to express gratitude and appreciation to those around them, whether it's saying "thank you" to a friend's mom or dad for having them over to play, or simply greeting a salesperson with a friendly "Hi, how's your day going?" These small acts of kindness can go a long way in making a positive impact on those around us. As Christians, we're called to live missionally and serve others, not just in our words, but in our actions. By living in a way that puts Christ on display, we can show others the love and kindness of God. This might look like inviting our neighbors over for a meal, sharing our bounty and our love with them, and praying for an open door to share the Good News. By doing so, we can be a blessing to those around us and reflect the character of our Lord.
