When we're feeling overwhelmed, it's easy to get caught up in anxiety and frustration. But what does it mean to 'rest in the Lord' when we're in this state? According to Psalm 37:7, it means to "Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him." This involves entrusting our problems to the Lord and leaving them in His hands, rather than trying to control or fix everything ourselves. It's a call to trust in God's sovereignty and goodness, even when things seem chaotic or uncertain.

Resting in the Lord also involves recognizing that our exhaustion and stress are not necessarily a result of sin, but rather a natural consequence of serving God and others. Jesus himself said, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). This means that we can come to God, not just as a source of comfort and strength, but as a source of rest and renewal. We can learn to slow down, trust in God's presence and power, and experience the joy and satisfaction that comes from knowing we are loved and cared for.

In practical terms, this means making space for God in our lives, whether through prayer, Bible reading, or simply taking time to be still and quiet. It involves recognizing that God delights in us and wants to be with us, even in the midst of chaos and uncertainty. As the prophet Isaiah says, "You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees will sing for joy" (Isaiah 55:12). When we learn to rest in the Lord, we can experience this kind of joy and peace, even in the midst of overwhelming circumstances. Divine intervention can take place when we surrender to God's sovereignty and trust in His goodness, even when things seem dark or uncertain. When we do, we can experience the rest and peace that God offers, and find joy and satisfaction in His presence. This can be a source of strength and renewal, helping us to persevere in our faith and live out our calling as disciples of Jesus.
