The Reality of Faith in Challenging Circumstances

When everything seems to be falling apart, it can be tempting to give up on our faith. We may feel like God is not delivering us from our troubles, or that our prayers are not being answered. However, the Bible teaches us that our faith must always triumph personally over our circumstances. This means that even when things don't change, we can still glorify God in difficult circumstances (Romans 5:3-5). Our faith may not change our circumstances, but it can change us, and that's what's most important.

The Importance of Stewarding Our Faith

When we're facing challenges, it's essential to take an inventory of our faith. Ask yourself questions like, "What's holding back the development of my faith?" or "Am I on guard against problems that could weaken my faith?" (1 Peter 1:5-7). We must continually use our faith, just like we would exercise our muscles to build strength. If we don't, we'll lose our spiritual muscle and struggle to grow in our faith. As we face obstacles, our strength comes not from dealing with them, but from God's ability to move them as we pray and trust Him (Psalm 121:1-2). We must purpose to grow our faith, and that means being intentional about our daily personal time with God, where we talk to Him and He talks to us friend to friend (Psalm 46:10).

The Power of Resilience in Faith

When we're struggling with our faith, it's easy to feel like giving up. But the Bible teaches us that our faith will not fail while God sustains it (1 Peter 1:5). We are not strong enough to fall away while God is resolved to hold us. Instead of abandoning our faith, we should learn to trust God even when we don't understand what He's doing (Proverbs 3:5-6). Disaster occurs in our lives when we lack the mental composure that comes from establishing ourselves on the eternal truth that God is holy love (Psalm 91:2). Faith is the supreme effort of our lives, throwing ourselves on God's promise, and trusting Him to be our rock and our salvation (Psalm 42:1-2). As we steadfastly believe in Him, everything that challenges us will strengthen our faith (Hebrews 3:14). Ultimately, our faith must triumph personally over our circumstances, even when things don't change. We must learn to trust God, even when we don't understand, and to believe steadfastly on Him, knowing that our faith will not fail while God sustains it.
